The mathematical definition of a logarithm to the base 10 (log10) is:
If x= 10y then y = log x
The log of a number is the power to which 10 must be raised to give that number.
For example, 100 = 10 x 10 = 102, (if the superscript is not available this can also be written as 10^2), and so log (100) = 2.
